Parting the Wild Horse's Mane
This video is the first in a series demonstrating important Tai Chi Techniques and explaining how they can be directly used to improve basic functional movements like walking. This video will feature Parting the Wild Horse's Mane. I will use the core movement analysis from The Tai Chi Code and The Walking Code to fully explain how the rotational elements of the core are used to execute Parting the Wild Horse's Mane and then how those same core elements are used in normal walking technique. The Tai Chi Code is my own analysis of the 8 Techniques which form the foundation of Tai Chi theory but are generally only discussed metaphorically. The Tai Chi Code presents a full core rotation analysis of each of the 8 Techniques and explains each movement in Tai Chi in relation to these Techniques. Summary of the 8 Techniques used in Parting the Wild Horse's Mane according to the Tai Chi Code analysis, starting from the end position of Parting the Wild Horse's Mane Left:
1. End of PTWHM Left-Technique: Split powered with right hip flexion
2. Pivot the Left Foot Out-Technique: Split powered with left hip flexion
3. Shift Forward-Technique: Split powered with right hip flexion
4. Shift Through Cat Stance-Technique: Elbow Strike powered with right hip flexion
5. Step Out with the Right Heel-Technique: Press powered by right hip flexion
6. Lower the Right Forefoot-Technique: Elbow Strike powered by right hip flexion
7. Shift Forward in PTWHM Right-Technique: Split powered by flexion of the left hip
Core Technique Definitions Split: Flexion of the active hip, Upper Torso turns toward the active hip, lower torso turns away from the active hip
Elbow Strike: Flexion of the active hip, Upper Torso turns away from the active hip, lower torso turns away from the active hip
Press: Flexion of the active hip, Upper Torso turns away from the active hip, lower torso turns toward the active hip
